ULTIMATE Cape Town City Guide is an independent guide for visitors to Cape Town, South Africa. We publish 14 curated lists: restaurants, cafés, bars, hotels, sights, arts & culture, parks, walks, shopping, health, property, developments, motoring and getting around. We cover the City Bowl and the Bo-Kaap, the V&A Waterfront and Green Point, Sea Point and Bantry Bay, Clifton and Camps Bay, Hout Bay, Constantia and the Southern Suburbs, Woodstock, and the False Bay coast, with day trips to Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Cape Point, Hermanus and the West Coast.

How we choose

Every place in our lists has been checked against its own website or an official source such as SANParks, SANBI (Kirstenbosch), the Table Mountain Aerial Cableway, the Robben Island Museum, Iziko Museums, the City of Cape Town and MyCiTi, Airports Company South Africa, SARS, the Department of Home Affairs or UNESCO. South Africa has no MICHELIN Guide: our great tables are our own selection. We use no ratings or awards, and we leave out anything we can’t confirm.

Before you go

Opening hours, entry rules and timetables change often, and the cableway, Chapman’s Peak Drive and the boats to Robben Island all depend on the weather. Please check directly with each place, and with official sources, before you travel. Prices are in South African rand (R).
