The back story

About Paternoster and the West Coast

North of Cape Town, the West Coast is a quieter, wilder shore: Paternoster’s whitewashed fishermen’s cottages, the turquoise lagoon at Langebaan and the West Coast National Park (SANParks), where in spring the Postberg section is covered in wild flowers.

Getting there

By car north on the R27 coast road.

The flowers

The flower season is in the southern spring; SANParks publishes the dates when the Postberg section opens. Check before you go.

Paternoster is about two hours’ drive north of Cape Town on the R27.

Paternoster

A fishing village of whitewashed cottages on a rocky shore, with beaches and seafood.

Our advice: stay a night; the West Coast is too far for a rushed day.
