Cape Town International Airport lies east of the city. MyCiTi, the city’s bus rapid transit network, runs from the airport into the centre and out along the Atlantic coast. The Southern Line runs from Cape Town station through the Southern Suburbs to Muizenberg, Kalk Bay and Simon’s Town. The Blue Train and Rovos Rail leave Cape Town for the long journey north.
Arriving
Cape Town International Airport is run by ACSA (airports.co.za). The MyCiTi airport route runs to the Civic Centre station in the city.
Around the city
MyCiTi buses run on their own lanes and from stations in the city, along the Atlantic Seaboard to Hout Bay and north to Table View; you pay with a myconnect card (myciti.org.za). Golden Arrow buses (gabs.co.za) run across the wider city.
For the peninsula and the Winelands, hire a car or a driver.
The long trains
The Blue Train (bluetrain.co.za) runs between Cape Town and Pretoria; Rovos Rail runs its own long journeys. See ULTIMATE Rail Journeys.
By sea
Boats to Robben Island leave the Nelson Mandela Gateway at the V&A Waterfront. Cape Town is also a cruise port: see ULTIMATE Cruises.
Our advice: check the MyCiTi website for routes on the day: services change.
